This previous Monday we held a live seminar on Armswing Mechanics with Nick Del Bianco and Mischa Harris from Athlete Wellness Academy. 20+ premium subscribers were able to attend live and many more of you emailed questions ahead of time. Nick and Mischa packed a ton of content into 90 minutes. This was one of the longest and densest seminars we’ve ever done. Just a ton of awesome stuff here.
Some of the questions we covered were:
How much can and should you try to “change” an armswing, especially for an experienced player?
What are the 3 most important biomechanical factors that contribute to more (or less) efficient armswings?
How much armswing work can be changed via cueing? How much can be changed with technical cues? How much comes from functional changes in a player’s physiology?
What are the most valuable “weight room” exercises for armswing development?
How should a player finish their swing? What are the similarities and differences between throwing and spiking?
What can athlete do to improve mobility and warm up their shoulders?
What can be done about athletes who are too pikey and hit with their lower back?
And a bunch more!
We talked about what kind of draw Nick and Mischa like a player to have..
The importance of relaxation during the draw to initiate the whip motion rather than a club.
How elite hitters generate this hip/shoulder disassociation and how can developing players start to build the strength to do that.

One of my favorite things about this session was how much video we watched and saw a variety of attackers implementing these actions. There’s a ton of valuable takeaways here, and we didn’t even have much time to get into jumping and landing mechanics because we spent so much on the armswing. We may have to get these guys back on to do a second session where we look at takeoff and landings.
