In yesterday’s post, I talked about some concepts to improve setter tutors.
This synches up well with a text I got from a professional setter, who is a little on her own for setter tutoring right now. While this list isn’t as ideal as working with a coach and planning out the one key upgrade to make at your next practice… we don’t always live in an ideal world. This list is basically my “Setting Matrix” that’s going make sure a player can fill in their map of the court and the different ways to get to different types of passes. At the very least, you’re going to get more variability than doing what you did yesterday… and the day before… and the day before.
And from there, you would ideally say, “okay, I’m feeling like Play X, Play Y, and Play Z were the most difficult for me to locate/keep on tempo/etc, so let me try to figure out why and what adjustments I can make.” And then design some cueing around that and make some upgrades from there. But again, even if all you do is add extra variability to your setting warmups, it’s better than nothing.
Maybe that gives you some ideas. Enjoy!
