For many club coaches, their first tournament, or at least their first major tournament is this coming up MLK Weekend. In that spirit, I ran a live webinar on the topic First Tournament Prep.

I discussed Planning Your Lineups. I referenced these two article:

Lineups Part 1
Lineups Part 2

If you haven’t read those articles, check them out. Part 1 discusses how to mix players in practice, so you’re training up enough people in the various roles on your team. Part 2 discusses how to put those plans into place by building out some lineup variations for the tournament.

Then we discussed Setting Priorities for the tournament. This is a big one and I went into a lot of detail in the webinar- both on how to set your priorities and how to follow up throughout the tournament. It’s really easy to get into a reactionary spiral when you get to a tournament and spend your whole time coaching the last mistake. It’s difficult to keep your team locked in on a Next Point Focus, but it has to start by where your focus is at.

And then I hit some other topics: pre-match, post-match, as well as some Troubleshooting topics that can go wrong at a tournament and some thoughts on how to handle them. I think you’ll enjoy.

Here’s a link to the pdf, which has slides as well as a downloadable video link:
