This November we’re talking about Season Planning and deciding on your Big Rocks that you need to put into your practice plans. If you’re a club volleyball coach, one of those Big Rocks might be something like, “Establish our sideout offense.” If so, one of the supporting pieces1 is your attacking footwork out of serve receive.
Broadly speaking, there’s 5 main footwork patterns you need to have in place for your sideout rotations:
Pin attacker footwork when they pass
Pin attacker footwork when they are in serve receive but don’t pass
Pin attacker footwork when they aren’t a primary passer
Let’s look at #3 here, pin attacker footwork when they pass aka Pass-to-Attack footwork.
Here’s a clip I’ve been showing for a while with some footwork I like.
If you’re interested in a 2-20-120 style clip, here’s something I’ve been using for a while for players when first introducing them to this footwork. In a club setting, I would text this video out before practice and players would watch in the car on the way over or while they are putting on shoes or something, and then be ready to go over this and implement it at practice.
