My Libero Mechanics And Skills seminar is available for coaches/organizations who want to book me for Summer 2024.
If you’ve been interested in some of the attacking content I’ve put out, you might be interested in this seminar:
Goldilocks Method: Passing
Double-Push
No-Steps Pancakes
Defensive Sessions
In the Organization - Mechanics - Skill framework, this seminar is about:
50% Mechanics
50% Skill
This seminar is less about teaching overall defensive systems and more about teaching a general basket of individual skills that players can apply to whatever system they play in. For example, hitters and setters still want to do stuff like this:
Reception is a big part of this clinic, and I’ll use my Goldilocks/Differential training techniques that have worked with players of all different ages. The aim here is not just to improve passing skill but to help players develop greater body awareness and feel for their technique, so that they can continue to improve after the clinic.
So we’ll spend about 40% on Reception and about 40% on Digging. The other 20% we’ll hit some aspects of coverage and non-setter setting.
Formats
The easiest format for this is just a straight player camp. Fill up your gym with kids and I’ll coach them up on these teaching points and demo the various exercises. Depending on facilities, number of participants, ratio of players to coaches, etc, I may introduce some of the physical training pieces I find helpful for liberos and defensive training in general.
The specific timing of the sessions depends on the number of kids you want. For example, with just one “wave” of kids, we can go 9:00 - 12:00 and 2:00 - 5:00. Depending on kids (and staffing), we can sometimes go a bit longer to get the kids more hours in the gym. We can also go multiple waves of players if you have more players than can fit on 1 or 2 courts.
This player camp session can work well for a 1-day or 2-day event.
Logistics and Other Formats
The libero camp needs 2 coaches per court because the coaches are going to need to do a fair amount of hitting. So for a 1-court camp, I need you to provide 1 assistant. For a 2-court camp, I need you to provide 4 court coaches who can hit balls off the ground or box and I can set up the demos and then bounce back and forth between the courts.
If you’re interested in the physical prep, we can do things like a 1-day event where I do coaches-only in the morning and then a player session in the afternoon/evening. Or a 1.5-day format where we do coaches-only on Friday night and players all day Saturday.
I can do a full 1-day coaches-only event, but you’ll need some coaches who are ready to hit or (ideally) 3 or 4 demo players (coaches kids, etc) so I can show this stuff implemented along a spectrum of skill and physicality.
1-day is the max for coaches-only, but I can do 2-day or 2.5-day with players.
This is also a seminar that works well if you want to do it as a summer evening camp for your players. If you’re interested in that, contact me and we’ll see if the travel logistics can work.
Cost
My rate is $1200/day + travel. See the Summer 2024 Seminars page for specific examples of how that pencils out.
